Detective Frank Malloy is searching for answers. Four years ago, Dr. Tom Brandt was murdered and his killer never brought to justice. Malloy has since befriended Brandt’s widow, Sarah, and believes that it is his duty to solve the case. Sarah has taken it upon herself to continue her late husband’s practice by providing midwife services for those who are less fortunate. Sarah has also helped Malloy on several occasions. The bond between them is strong even though they are both afraid of getting too close. Malloy wants to ease Sarah’s mind by solving the murder, but what if his search uncovers a truth not even Sarah can comprehend? This novel is another addition to Thompson’s Gaslight Mystery series. Those readers who are familiar with the series will not be disappointed. Readers new to Thompson’s series might want to read previous entries. Having some background knowledge of Sarah and Malloy will make the story flow more easily. Thompson does an excellent job of shifting the narrative between the two, enabling the reader to see both points of view throughout the novel. Readers will appreciate having a male and female perspective on the same subject. The characters are very well-written, and the story moves quickly. Mystery lovers will thoroughly enjoy this book.
