The popular and critically acclaimed Faire Folk Saga continues in THE SCIONS OF SHADOW TRILOGY

When the Redwood Forest tree shepherd disappears under mysterious circumstances, Keelie Heartwood and her elven grandmother arrive at the local Renaissance festival to investigate. Then her grandmother vanishes—and Keelie finds herself ensnared in a life-or-death battle against an ancient curse, a goblin prophecy, and a diabolical alliance.

VOYA

The Faire Folk Saga continues with The Scions of Shadow Trilogy. Shadows of the Redwood is the first in the new trilogy and continues the adventures of sixteen-year-old half-elf Keelie. Keelie, now more confident in her magical powers, is asked to accompany her grandmother to the Redwood Forest, site of the Juliet Shakespeare Festival. The Tree Shepherd who guards the Redwood Forest has vanished, and Keelie and her grandmother immediately begin to investigate his disappearance. Keelie tries using her powers to communicate with the trees in the forest, but these trees, ancient and mysterious, are not talking. When she does make contact with two powerful tree spirits, she is uneasy with the extent of their powers, which could easily be used for ill purposes. There is evil at the heart of this forest, and Keelie is determined to get to the bottom of it. The Renaissance Faire setting is only a sketchy background this time around, which takes much of the fun out of this latest novel. Keelie’s character has also not grown much throughout the books, making this novel somewhat of a tedious rehash. It is telling that the most vivid of all the characters is Knot, the curmudgeonly cat. The author also has an annoying habit of inserting contrived references to teen fashion labels in an attempt to increase reader appeal. This fusion of chick lit and fantasy has its moments, but it comes up short this time around. Reviewer: Jan Chapman
