After their near-fatal battle with Poseidon, Charlotte and Zee would love nothing more than to relax and forget all over again that the Greek gods are real. But with the world in peril and no one else to save it, that just isn’t an option. Charlotte and Zee meet the Prometheans, an ancient brotherhood trying to protect mankind from the whims of the gods, who think they might have finally found a weapon capable of bringing Zeus to his knees. But using this weapon will come at a great cost, one Charlotte and Zee are not willing to pay. They strike out on their own for Mount Olympus, with the Prometheans, an angry Chimera, and all sorts of mythological beings on their tail…

Charlotte and her cousin Zee, both eighth graders, are very tired when this third installment of the series opens. They have just battled the powerful god Poseidon. They do not realize that Philonecron, Poseidon’s misguided grandson, has unleashed turmoil upon the ocean. Philonecron’s plan is to overthrow Zeus on Mount Olympus. Charlotte, Zee, and her friend, Mr. Metos, must find a way to stop this plan and save the world. Zee mysteriously receives an ancient map and what appears to be a broken lighter. The lighter and map soon play a very significant role in getting to Mount Olympus and defeating Philonecron. Mr. Metos reveals that there is an unknown son of Zeus, Steve. Steve provides some unexpected aide to Zee when the teenagers look as if they are about to be defeated. For fans of the Percy Jackson series, this could prove satisfying. Charlotte and Zachary are delightful characters, as they are quick-witted and have lots of bravado; however, the book needs tighter editing; many of the descriptions and attempts to explain the previous two books prove to be very distracting. The ending is also rather abrupt; but with some more concise writing, this might provide a satisfying conclusion. Reviewer: Elizabeth Fronk
